The subject of research is the connection between created and erected typical panel sleeping districts in the Soviet cities and the generations who have grown up there and spent their life.
All the people participated in the project didn’t know the entire idea and potential results of the project, but just were interested to take part in researching of the modern architecture and to share personal experience of living in Soviet sleeping districts.
The material divided into 11 parts touching the themes of society, sensibility, reality, time definitions, collective and personal mind, choice.
Every hero of the project has some personal connection to the place where the shootings took place.
ETERNAL RETURN
PRESENTIMENT
BEING A HUMAN BEING
The core idea of many religious that everything in the life has already happened before and will happen again and again in future. That life exists as a cycle and repeats an infinite number of times across infinite time or space. The system of geometric, ordered and identical panel buildings simplifies the variety of life existence to a schematic monotone daily life long cycle.
A feeling that something often of undesirable nature is going to happen. Foresight of future events without any grounds for that. As the panel districts were created alike the scheme on the world map, so you feel yourself like somebodies’ mind leads you during your walking time. Once you start notice the signs around and then the visualization of a potential course of events appears.
Human is a social creature with consciousness, who studies and changes himself and the world around him, creates a culture and his own history. The paradox is the fact that the human mind creates the architecture structures and systems of living and these systems, in its turn, creates the human mind as it is. But after all there is nothing else except lonely mind in the middle of the enormous empty black space as outside as inside the structures.
DÉJÀ VU
Déjà vu or involuntary recurrent memory, is a psychological phenomenon in which an individual has a sudden, unusual, powerful re-experience of a past experience or elements of a past experience. Strong and endless Déjà vu comes to you in every of sleeping districts, no matter which city or part of the country you are. You see the same yards, the same supermarket or block-type schools in the middle. From that point the idea of moving seems to be an absurd because leaving your memories in one place you have no choice but to meet them in another place.
Game
A level, stage, world, zone, phase, mission, episode or course in a video game is the total space available to the player during the course of completing a discrete objective. Video game levels have progressively increasing difficulty. Each level presents new challenges to keep players interest high. Simplified, high-rise building stages alike the missions in the game, as high you come, as more doubts about choice and less connection with the reality ground.
past
The past is the set of all events that occurred before a given point time. It developed from verb passen, meaning ‘to pass’. Past is the collective cultural heritage, existing in present and influencing on our sense of reality, and the same moment, running away back, denying the importance of presence in compare with itself.
citizens
The group of people merged in society by existing at mutual place, bordered from the world by frames, called city. The society of people who live with the same rhythm of life. Habitants, who form the specific and unique eco-system of the place of living.
NEIGHBORHOODS
The district where live your school friends, the friends of your friends, your grandmother, your aunt with three children, your dancing class teacher, your first love from another school. The district where you first time tried cigarettes, lost your first expectations, the district where you were born and where you might be dying in future.
AGE OF AQUARIUS
An astrological era believed to bring increased spirituality and harmony on the earth. It believed that aquarian age will be the triumph of human mind and bring the transformation of traditional way of thinking. Technical innovations in materials, structure of traditional houses and ideas of co-living that moved the usual life to the new level could be the early signs of the new era, that predicted to start during this age. Equality, modernity and social isolation are the most common lineament of the coming era.
LABYRINTHS OF MIND
Labyrinth’s function is to hold something inside and never let it go out. Metaphorically it’s a prison fueled illusions of possible freedom. Labyrinths of created system of public accommodation bring to the life literally the same ideas of social bonds.
FUTURE
The future tense refers to actions that have not yet happened, but which are due, expected, or likely to occur in the future. Future goes back to the Latin root ‘futrus’ – ‘about to be’. With the bright future hopes connect all the Utopia’s ideas and worlds’ totalitarian systems of the past. All the attempts of creating the architecture or cities of future were the loud recognition of failure of present.
